Pattern Play: Simplicity 8377, View 1 Spotlight

HERE ARE THE DEETZ! 

Pattern: Simplicity 8377, View 1 Base Pattern 

Description: Misses Knit Cardigan with Variations and Multiple Pieces for Design Hacking 

Supplies: Brother Innovis, Disney Edition and Brother, Serger SQ9185  

Fabric: Joann.com - Ember Diamond Textured Knit Fabric Heather Grey, Item # 16714966  

Thread: Grey for stay stitching and top stitching, White for interior finishing with serger   

Sewing Level: Beginner 

At first thought, I was really excited to sew this one up for many reasons. It was quick, easy and who doesn’t need a cardigan in their wardrobe? I had a great idea for an exaggerated sleeve to make it my own. However, that vision was quickly fading when I started putting it together and my beautiful cardigan was looking more like I was going to sing lead in a church choir. So after a night of rest I got some ideas and made some alterations. 

Alterations

I added side seam pockets, belt loops and tie belt. I cut the bottom half the cardigan and sewed it back together to create a horizontal seam. I self-drafted the puffy bishop sleeve with the slash and spread method. I added about 3 inches to the length and added a band to create an oversized sweatshirt look. 

Pros

Easy sew, not too many pattern pieces and I love that there are so many variations. The possibilities are endless. I made 2 more and plan to make many more colors. 

Cons

It is a very simple pattern so it needed a bit of spice for me.
