I participated in my first sewing challenge on social media.  I am always hesitant about these types of challenges because I almost always lose interest or they just don’t fit what I want to do throughout the whole challenge.  I will say the positivity and support from all the sewing bloggers was super encouraging.  I love being a part of the sewing community.

Alterations

I cut the shoulders and trimmed most of the pieces to match the edges. First, I sewed the shoulders and center facing.  Second, I sewed the side seams together with the ties in the middle. I set them off angle because I made the ties super long in order to overlap and go around my waist a couple times. I did not add the button on the inside because there was excess fabric I didn’t know what to do with.

Pros

Once you get the pieces right, it is an extremely easy sew. It can be worn off the shoulder or as a modest cowl neck wrap as shown in the photo.

Did I mention it was a free pattern? While I’m at it, please take a look at all the beautiful free pattern downloads on the mood fabrics website. I downloaded a few more patterns to add to my “To Make” list.

 Cons

First, If you do not have knowledge about patterns and working with patterns I do not suggest you start with a PDF Pattern. PDF patterns are not an exact science. After you have printed and attached all the pieces, some of the pieces will not match not matter how much you try. I am still not sure how to get the intended wear of the garment featured on the mood website. I am determined to attempt a few more times to get the finished garment right.

Video

Once I figure out all the kinks, I will post a video tutorial on my tube channel because I do not want anyone to feel the way I felt while making this garment.
