In the Details: Beauty in Purpose

Scrap or Purpose? What do you see?

If you are anything like me, you do not like to be wasteful. Waste time, waste money, waste food, waste relationships...you name it. I think it comes from the long and stressful days of being a single parent. I was always finding ways to maximize the hours I had in a day along with the limited resources and finances to survive. It was the small and seemingly insignificant habits I carried out on a daily basis that were essential to my success . I must admit, some days, I wanted to come home and just face plant my bed and forget about the day.  But I had to train myself to remember WHY I had to stick to my habits. Eventually, I became so good at it that my zero to no waste lifestyle became second nature and my household was running like a well oiled machine.

Fast forward a few years, and those habits still remain to this day. So much so that I forget other people don't operate the same way I do. So needless to say, I find it odd when I hear people say they never have enough time to accomplish anything.  I'm like, "wait, hold, up...do you NOT get the same 24 hours a day like I do!?!?" LOL.

Anyway I digress...this post is really about sewing...LOL. One day as I was happily cutting away on a new project and tossing excess fabric into my scrap pile and I thought, "this pile is getting out of hand and there is really no reason why I am keeping it. I should just toss it all at once." But as I bent to pick up the bag I caught a glimpse of some fabric I had totally forgotten about, it was so beautiful. Then, it hit me...all the wonderful things I can create with these insignificant scraps. I had to re-purpose...basically, remembering the purpose to go forward with creativity.

Has this ever happened to you? You are just about ready to get rid of the insignificant when you find a purpose for it and it becomes something beautiful. Was it getting up 5 minutes earlier to meditate and start your day off right, drinking more water, saving the extra change in your pocket. Sometimes in life we tend to overlook the small, and insignificant things. Surprisingly, with a little refocus and purpose those same things end up being the most beautiful. I challenge you to take inventory of the seemingly small and insignificant things in your life...you'll be surprised what you find with a purpose driven view.

Below is a collection of the beautiful and purposeful things I created with my scraps...enjoy!
