New Year New Patterns: Organizing My Pattern Stash
Happy New Year Sewcial Fam!
Although 2023 ended sadly with my mom passing, it was still a year of growth, connections and fulfilling dreams. I grew my social media following significantly, I made some amazing connections attended my first Frocktails event in Miami and even got to debut my first clothing collection at DC Fashion Week! I am excited to continue moving toward accomplishing my 2024 goals.
Now that I am back home and on my daily routine I realized I have A LOT of work to do. One of them was organizing my pattern stash. I went live on TikTok recently to show how I organize and keep my patterns. Full disclosure, it is a modified version of how MimiG Style organizes her pattern stash.
How it all started:
Remember when we were all stuck at home in 2020 and just going stir crazy? I decided to make the best of my time and finally get control of my pattern stash. Let me tell you it was out of hand, I didn’t know where anything was, I was buying duplicate patterns and losing patterns! So, I created an excel spreadsheet (because I after all, I am a former government employee and what’s a project without a spreadsheet?) LOL So I went to work!
What you’ll need:
Your pattern stash
Sheet Protectors
9”x11” envelopes
Markers
2”-3” Binders
What you’ll do:
Open the spreadsheet, grab a pattern, type in all the details in the spreadsheet. Separate the pattern content from the pattern envelope. Insert the pattern envelop contents into the 9”x11” envelope. Using the marker, write the pattern number on the envelope at the top and side of the envelope. Take the pattern envelope and slide it into the sheet protector and place it the binder. Take the 9”x11” envelope with the pattern contents and file it in a drawer, box, cabinet or anywhere that works best for you. Repeat the process until you have catalogued all your patterns!
Success! Now you are one step closer to decluttering and organizing your sewing space!
I hope this method works for you. Let me know if you try it and my pattern catalog. Until next time remember
